Our prime directive here at the project is to honor those
who are and were willing to give their all so that we can
live the lifestyle we are so accustomed to.

Yet, there comes a time when we simply cannot continue
to ignore those who show such selfless, unending devotion
to our cause!

There are a few out there who have sent us enough squares
to complete more than a dozen lapghans all by themselves!
We would like to honor them as well.  They are the backbone
of our organization and without there
diligent efforts, we could not accomplish what we have set
out to do.

So we are going to feature some of these wonderful people as
well as their feelings about our courageous troops.

Jean Wells from Greenville, KY never seems to run out of
charitable causes to get involved in. I sometimes wonder if
she takes time to sleep.  Here is an excerpt from a note she
sent recently.

“I had all my yarn scraps cleaned out when my sister
came from Alabama in September.  She brought two
large trash bags of yarn.  Besides the Hanson
Veterans Center, I am working on house shoes and lap
robes for the Nursing Home Christmas Shopping Spree
    which will be December 6.”

Pictured here, you can see she is “buried” in her work!

Jean works nights watching sleeping patients, so she has lots
of crochet time available (I’m sure she does more than that,
but that’s all she’ll admit to).  She stays busy making afghans
for the veterans' home in Hanson, KY as well as
trying to make sure all the new babies in her church are
warm and snuggly with blankets and caps.

She and sister, Jo love to wander flea markets, yard sales and
old forgotten cemeteries.

Kudos to Jean and all her efforts!
Another contributor we shouldn't ignore is Shirley
Hewitt.
She joins us from Garden City, MO.  She tells me
"That's about 1 hours' drive SE of Kansas City".

This lady is very active.  She lives on a 200 acre
cattle farm.  She does a lot of cooking for her family
and they love to hunt.  So they eat a lot of freshly
caught game.

They brought her some deer this last time they went
out, so Venison is on the menu in the coming weeks.

She loves to travel with friends in a mobile home, so
that gives her time to use her crochet hook while on
the road.

I love to get her packages because she usually
sends some cute little pattern or trinket along with the
squares.

Keep the squares coming Shirley!
Rosalie Rabuck joined us almost a
year ago and she is still going strong!
She resides in Newton, IL.
Natasha and Shon Webber are stationed in
Hawaii at present.  Shon is in the Air Force
and Natasha is in the Purple Heart Project.
They hail originally from the state of
Oregon and Shon’s dad is a Purple Heart
Vet from Vietnam.

Mickie Shattles is a donater of her
hand crocheted squares for the
"Purple Heart Project".

Born and raised in Dawson, Georgia;
she is the widow of a 37 year marriage
to a Veteran of the Service.
They have two Sons and three
Grandchildren.

Mickie spends her time crocheting as a
hobby and has donated to numerous
other causes, such as
the local nursing home and the N.I.C.
Unit at Phoebe Putuney Memorial
Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

She works at the Dawson Manor
Nursing Home as payroll clerk and
Secretary.

She loves spending time with her
children and Grandchildren on her
days off.

Thank You Mickie...and keep those
fingers nimble for our
Brave Warriors!!
